Marriage That Sings

You may be wondering why we chose “marriage that sings” as the title of our wedding website. And you would be right to wonder! We certainly aren’t known for our singing ability and no, we won’t be showcasing some secret duet talent at our wedding.

“A marriage that sings” comes from the book we’ve been studying with our pastor during pre-marital counseling.*

In it, author Tim Keller writes,

“To have a marriage that sings requires a Spirit-created ability to serve, to take yourself out of the center, to put the needs of others ahead of your own. The Spirit’s work of making the gospel real to the heart weakens the self-centeredness in the soul. It is impossible for us to make major headway against self-centeredness and move into a stance of service without some kind of supernatural help.”

Our heart and hope in getting married is that we might reflect and live out the life-transforming message of the gospel. We believe this is God’s intended design for marriage, and is accomplished by the mercy and provision of God through Jesus Christ as we forgive, serve and love each other even when we clearly see and are grieved by our sinful selfishness.

We share this with all of you because we have been blessed by your involvement in our lives and we ask that as you join in the celebration of this new covenant in our relationship on June 22nd, you remember that we are also humbly inviting you to participate in our striving towards having a “marriage that sings.” We ask for your prayers, your support, and your willingness to speak truth into our lives.
