Visiting Seattle

For  those hoping to stay a few extra days to enjoy this beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest, we offer a few suggestions.

There is a lot to do in Seattle itself, such as visiting Pike Place Market (fresh locally produced foods, seafood, flowers, and handcrafted goods) and the Seattle Center (home of the Space Needle and several museums). Kerry Park boasts a viewpoint overlooking Seattle that captures both the Space Needle and Mt. Rainier on a sunny day. Seattle also has several great waterfront parks, including Olympic Sculpture Park, Alki Beach Park with its great view of the Seattle skyline, and Discovery Park with its wooded trails leading down to a picturesque lighthouse and a great view of the Olympic mountains. Just a short ferry ride away is rustic Bainbridge Island, where you can browse small shops or enjoy spectacular views of the Olympic mountain range.

To the east of Seattle are the Cascade Mountains and to the west are the Olympic Mountains. Snoqualmie Falls is a lovely waterfall in the Cascades about 40 min drive east of Seattle. On sunny days, majestic Mt. Rainier dominates the sky to the southeast of our wedding venue. Entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park is just 90 minutes away. If you want mountains, the ocean, and a national park all in one place, then visit the Olympic Penisula (home of Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest), but plan on spending at least a full day.

Farther north of Seattle are the San Juan Islands, about 3 hrs by car plus a ferry ride. It is a stunning paradise of sparkling blue water, lush green forests and snow-capped mountains in the background, with a lot of things to do from whale-watching, sea kayaking, bicycling, hiking or birdwatching, to shopping and eating in charming villages. And if you have your passport along, you can even take a ferry across to Victoria, British Columbia, famed for its spectacular gardens.
